Dr. Alyssa Goodwin, MD

Dr. Alyssa Goodwin, MD is a board-certified pediatrician, pediatric mental health advocate, and expert in school health. Before starting Stellar Pediatrics, Dr. Goodwin trained at Children’s National Medical Center and worked for two decades as a primary care pediatrician in Maine. During this time she developed a passion for child and adolescent mental health. Today,  Dr. Goodwin partners with children and their families to provide personalized care in a direct practice setting, allowing her patients to achieve their goals for both mental and physical wellness. Through her partnership with families and her collaboration with local school districts,  Dr. Goodwin is an effective advocate for her patients in the office and beyond.

    We are stewards of a restorative community for healing and learning. We honor the lived experiences of those impacted by suicide and suicide risk. Hope and joy are fostered through shared experiences, engagement, and mutual support with the goal of generational transformation.

    Dr. Goodwin's Connection to Camp Kita
    After volunteering on-site at Camp Kita in 2023 Dr. Goodwin was hooked. The magic that happens at camp is hard to put into words. Looking for a deeper way to connect with the Kita Center, Dr. Goodwin became the camp doctor and was thrilled to be asked to join the Kita Center board of directors starting in 2024.

    Girls on the Run has fun, evidence-based programs that inspire all girls to build their confidence, kindness and decision making skills. Dynamic lessons instill valuable life skills including the important connection between physical and emotional health.

    Dr. Goodwin's connection to GIRLS ON THE RUN
    Dr. Goodwin became aware of Girls on the Run in the spring of 2015 when the program came to her daughter, Hazel's, school. Hazel was a 3rd grader at the time and eagerly signed up for the program. Dr. Goodwin started coaching in the spring of 2017 and has remained the head coach at Harriet Beecher Stowe School in Brunswick ever since. Girls on the Run allows Dr. Goodwin to bring her passion for physical wellness to girls at a critical age in social and emotional development, wrapped in a fun and evidence-based curriculum.

    Dr. Goodwin has run the Chicago, London, and Berlin marathons as a Sole Mate raising upwards of $2000 for Girls on the Run

  • Brunswick School Department

    School Health has been an integral part of Dr. Goodwin’s practice. She became the School Physician for the Brunswick School Department in 2014. In this role, she supports the district in the review and implementation of school health practices/policies. She regularly meets with the district’s 4 School nurses and administrators every 1-4 weeks addressing the many health issues that school districts increasingly manage. 

    Maine AAP School Health

    Dr. Goodwin Joined the Board of Directors of the Maine Academy of Pediatrics in the spring of 2023 to co-create the School Health Committee. Maine AAP School Health Committee (MeSHC)

    The Maine AAP School health Committee defines school health as an integration of wellness, safety, growth, learning, and development in the lives of school-aged children and adolescents within the context of their school, and with the coordinated alliance of the family and the medical home.  The MeCSH seeks to promote sound school health policies and practices that ensure the health and safety of school-aged children and adolescents through policy, education, and advocacy.

    Suicide Prevention

    Through her involvement at Camp Kita and role in school health, Dr. Goodwin has taken a leadership role in supporting the role out of American Academy of Pediatric’s Blueprint for youth suicide prevention in partnership with NAMI (National Alliance on Mental Illness) Maine and the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention.
